The remote control requires two (2) AAA batteries (not included). Follow these steps to install the batteries:

Tábhachtach: Do not mix new batteries with old ones. Do not use rechargeable batteries unless specified by the device manufacturer.

Once batteries are correctly installed, the remote control is ready for use. Point the remote control directly at the infrared (IR) sensor of your compatible device (e.g., evaporative air cooler) and press the desired function button.
